New Moon January 30, 2014 @ 10 degrees 55 minutes Aquarius

04:38 p.m. EST  01:38 p.m. PST

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA“Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple.”

Woody Guthrie

Each of us has genius. “In ancient Rome, the genius (plural in Latin genii) was the guiding spirit or tutelary deity of a person, family (gens), or place (genius loci).[2] The noun is related to the Latin verb gigno, genui, genitus, “to bring into being, create, produce.”—Wikipedia, etymology of genius

As this New Moon approaches we will all discover new ways to express the creative genius. Aquarius is the sign of innovation, insight and evolution that illuminates. It is awareness of truth beyond individual expression. Aquarians are somewhat eccentric. They do not fit into the box but rather thrive upon open seas and cloudless skies that make other people uncomfortable. The empty canvas represents freedom to explore. When these characteristics are applied to the Moon, the emotional nature, there is a desire for freedom that exceeds the Moon’s tendency within us to ask for security and attachment.

There is a limitless aspect to this Moon that guides us toward liberty from the usual emotional congestion. Simplicity arrives as the past falls away and there is nothing requiring us to expect anything from anybody. There is no thing and there is no body separate from, upon which to project our fears in any case. The awareness that we are “that” leaves us with the knowing that wanting more, better or different is folly as “that” is everything, perfect in this moment and is. Acceptance of this creates peace. Resistance to this creates disappointment.

In the New Moon chart, Pallas is within 17 minutes of exact inconjunct (quincunx for those who can pronounce it) to the Sun/Moon. Pallas Athena, as we have discussed in other articles, is an asteroid existing in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. In Greek mythology Athena stepped from the brow of Zeus, her father a mature, fully armor-clad woman. She is wisdom, courage, inspiration and heroic endevour. There is nothing dependent in her nature. At the helm of this ship she steers us on a course of responsible and unencumbered creativity.

An inconjunct is a 150 degree aspect that in my perception is a trine with a semi sextile. This combines the ease and grace of a trine, a harmonious aspect, with the challenge of a semi-sextile. A trine generally incorporates planets that are positioned in signs of the same element whilst a semi-sextile involves signs that have nothing in common. Taurus, a fixed earth sign for example, is 30 degrees from Aries a cardinal fire sign. An inconjunct speaks of resolution to difficulties through the ease and grace of higher knowing or greater awareness. Generally it is said that the planets involved in an inconjunct create frustration until we perceive events associated with them from the big picture.

The configuration also includes all those planets that are within a 2 degree orb—Jupiter, Uranus (ruler of Aquarius), Chiron and the Pluto/Venus conjunction are influential through varying aspects. A lot is being said here about maturation of the emotional self and the use of wisdom that precedes action so that service is for the highest good. Aquarius is community oriented with goals that encompass evolution of the human spirit. With the new Moon in Capricorn on January 1 structure was established for the launching of a higher vision. That vision has sprouted wings and is free to attain the highest heights.

For each of us that will translate differently though we benefit from what occurs collectively. How it shows up individually depends upon several factors including where Aquarius is in your natal chart and the position of Uranus and aspects to. There will be a little story that becomes quite clear when you grasp the thread and follow it inward.

In these few days we rise up, rock on, shine on, in a way that becomes all of us as an expression of the infinite, definitionless, limitless—“that”. Not something to ponder or pursue. Nothing is required to arrive here. Everything guides us to this place of peace. We have had the benefit of astrological alignments that ease our thoughts toward surrender for some time. All the knots have been successfully untatted. The patterns dissolve, remain only for those who don’t know what to do without them so they work to maintain the network of denial for safety sake. That is okay and anything I find ‘my self’ doing is okay. But during a New Moon in Aquarius it serves my instinctual self and my conscious self to recognize the fallacy of considering that there can be anything other than “that” and any identification with any self other than Self leads to futile attempts to maintain something that never really existed.

Jupiter is growth, Chiron heals, Uranus awakens, Pluto transforms and Venus, along for a feisty ride teaches us to relate based on a new set of principals that are beyond basic human desire and as such create a simple expression of our true nature—peace. Out of this peace beauty arises knowing that my true nature is beauty, without measure, without judgment, without bound. In this I rest and the rest creates it self.
